Via 3L OÜ Completes Major Renewable Energy Project in Early 2025

At the beginning of 2025, Via 3L OÜ completed a significant renewable energy project at its logistics complex in Lagedi, Harju County. This initiative has reduced the company’s overall environmental footprint by more than 20%, while the logistics complex itself has seen a reduction of over 60%. Additionally, the project ensures complete energy security for the entire logistics center.
The facility now features 1,280 solar panels with a total capacity exceeding 627 kWp. To maximize self-consumption of the generated energy, a 2.15 MWh battery storage system has been integrated. This system captures all generated energy and redirects it for internal use.
The battery storage also provides the flexibility to purchase electricity from the grid at lower prices during off-peak periods and use it throughout the day, avoiding expensive market rates. This results in price stability, maintaining consistent service costs, and ensuring stable pricing and quality for Via 3L’s partners.
The project was technically executed by Energiapartner OÜ, delivering a full “turnkey” solution from design to installation.
A Smart and Resilient Energy Solution
According to Urmas Uudemets, CEO of Via 3L OÜ, the combination of solar panels and battery storage allows the company to produce and utilize over 65% of the electricity required for its logistics center. This not only significantly reduces the company’s environmental impact but also provides control over energy costs.
An important feature of the solution is its off-grid capability. The battery system is designed to cover the logistics center’s entire 24-hour energy demand, ensuring uninterrupted operations even in the event of a power outage. If sunlight is available during the day, the facility can remain self-sufficient for even longer periods. This is crucial for business continuity and national food security, benefiting Via 3L, its partners, and the entire country.
A Complex and Innovative Project
Due to its scale and complexity, the project took 1.5 years from the initial concept to completion. Uudemets expressed his satisfaction with Energiapartner’s project execution, highlighting the need for repeated redesigns and adjustments to achieve the optimal solution.
“For us, three key criteria were essential—energy security, maximum self-consumption, and winter price stability. All of these were successfully met,” Uudemets stated.
The entire system operates autonomously, with smart algorithms managing market-based energy flows to ensure optimal performance, taking into account Via 3L’s reserve margins, price fluctuations, solar production, and internal consumption.
Energiapartner OÜ: A Strong Collaboration with VIA3L
According to Helari Täll, CEO of Energiapartner OÜ, the partnership with Via 3L was highly productive. The project presented unique technical challenges, as the client required an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) function to ensure that solar panels continued operating even during grid failures.
Additionally, the entire system is relocatable, introducing further complexity in the design and construction phases.
Energiapartner, together with EMS provider ENcombi and balance management partner Scener, developed a customized solution that ensures:
✔️ Peak shaving, optimizing self-consumption by charging batteries with cheap electricity or storing solar energy for later use during high-price periods.
✔️ Negative market price protection, preventing losses from selling excess solar energy to the grid at negative prices.
✔️ Energy security, allowing the client to set a battery reserve for power outages.
✔️ Revenue generation from SPOT and reserve markets, optimizing battery cycles for the most profitable transactions, thereby improving the system’s overall return on investment.
